Elephant wading through shallow river beside sandy bank and green trees under bright daylight, calm safari scene
"Taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in Him!”
Psalm 34:8 CSB

One gorgeous winter’s day in Botswana, we watched a particular herd of elephants crossing a dusty riverbed. And rather than simply strolling across, the youngsters found a much more entertaining way down the steep bank—sliding down on their bums and creating enormous clouds of dust as each took turns!

I captured this little cutie bounding with great delight to catch up with its mother after sliding down. 😊

Elephants walk through a dusty savanna beneath Psalm 34:8 CSB, with a blue sky and calm, reflective mood.

You can feel the excitement and joy in its steps, as well as the urgency to keep up.

Perhaps you need a little more joy, like this little elephant today? Or just a reminder of God’s great character and His goodness. And when life gets us down, as it often does, our joy tends to vanish in an instant.

But I want to encourage you with this truth, dear friend—that God is still good and faithful, even when our circumstances are not, and even when our hearts tell us otherwise.

Take refuge in Him today, Beloved.

He’s your perfect haven.

Your safe place.

Your mighty fortress of strength and great comfort.

May these words encourage your heart:

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and rescued me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant with joy; their faces will never be ashamed…

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry for help.”

Psalm 34:4, 5, 15 (CSB)

God sees you. He knows you, and He hears you.

May we be like that little elephant—bounding along with a new skip in our step, as we look to and follow close after our God, wherever He leads us.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You that You are my eternal refuge and my source of great strength.
I look to You today for strength and help. Fill me with Your joy as I follow close to You and learn Your ways.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
