Soothing Our Troubled Hearts

Sit quietly for a moment. Breathe slowly.

Imagine Jesus speaking these words to you:

“Let not your heart be troubled…”

In John chapter 13, we read that Jesus had just washed his disciples’ feet—displaying the most beautiful and profound act of service and love. Then Jesus told them to do the same for one another, and that He would be leaving them soon. This must have been such disturbing news—their beloved Messiah, Rabbi, and Lord, whom they loved deeply and had walked so intimately with for three years, was about to leave them!

But, you see, He needed to go. Everything in all eternity depended on Him doing what He needed to do. They would only fully realise this after His death and resurrection, and that those dusty, grimy feet of theirs that he washed on that holy night were but a whisper of the greatest act of sacrificial love and service ever performed—washing away the filth of sin, guilt, and shame from their hearts and all of humanity, once and for all.

“…you believe in God, believe also in Me…”, Jesus said to them, as He says to us today.

As our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, now sits enthroned in heaven at the right hand of the Father, interceding for all who believe in Him and all those who do not yet believe, He’s also preparing a place for us with Him.

The greatest promise that awaits us, is that all who believe IN HIM (who He is and what He did) shall be where He is—that is the greatest gift—living eternally, fully encapsulated in His perfect love, light, presence, and constant fellowship.

What is our responsibility? To prepare ourselves for Him too.

Preparing for eternity doesn’t begin when we die—it will be too late then—it begins when we accept Jesus’s gift of salvation and receive His great love and eternal forgiveness for all our sins and shame, believing that He is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Dear friend, are you preparing yourself for Him?

His second return and eternal wedding banquet is very near, beloved. And so may we live a life of unhindered, deep devotion and preparation for Him.

After all, He is all that matters.

As Jesus Christ prepares our eternal home with Him, let’s ensure we are preparing ourselves for Him too.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You that You are preparing a place for me with You. I cannot wait to meet You in all Your fullness and eternal glory. You are beautiful and beyond compare—my greatest treasure.
